This is a great follow-up to their first CD. They're probably the best thing (musically, at least) to come out of LI for a long time.

- Buy the first one instead
Voyage to the Palace of Kali is nonstop great ska. This one was a disappointment in comparison. Voyage to the Palace of Kali has been on my CD changer for years, it is so great. This one I barely listened to 5 times. Spider Nick is great, hope they come out with a new album like Voyage to the Palace of Kali!

Well....I might be a little bias because I'm on the damn album, but here it goes....I'll try to be objective.
I feel FIREPIT is a great second album.....however, it could have been better. But I'd rather focus on the positive....I think the originals on this album surpass the originals on VOYAGE TO THE PALACE OF KALI.
Uncle Al, as well as the 3 I wrote:"As good as you", "The fool" and 'get out of my sight" hold up well......
in retrospect I suppose we shouldn't have done "as good as you" as a swing tune...being that the swing scene died just as the record was released, but hey....so what.
It's still fun.......and that's what music should be about.

- A Great Album From One of Long Islands Hottest Ska Bands
From the high-energy opening of Fuzzy to the sweet, ska-flavored cover of You Belong To Me, Spider Nick and the Maddogs' second album contains a great mix of songs that shows what makes these guys so much fun to see in concert.

Some of the best tracks on this album show the many styles these guys tackle including straightforward ska (Uncle Al and As Good As You), calypso (Angelina), and good ol' Rock n' Roll (Midnight Special). Other highlights include One Cup of Coffee and Return to Kali, a reprise of the title track from their first album.

This album is a lot of fun and is definitely worth checking out. They also put on a mean concert!

Firepit proves that the Maddogs keep getting better and better! The Cd is filled with creative new songs that rival those of the band's fist cd Voyage to the Palace of Kali. Most noteworthy is the song penned by Martielli (aka "Spider Nick"), "Uncle Al." Also of noteworthy mention are the tracks "Angelina," "One Cup of Coffee," and "Firepit." If you are looking for a cd that makes you want to get up and dance and that makes it difficult to sit around, this is the ONE for you! Great for anyone who likes swing or ska, or anyone searching for a unique switch. Some exceptional saxophone sounds.
